We all have struggles in our lives: grief, pain, loss, etc. It can be difficult to keep hope and peace, but Jesus brings us good news! We do have to finish our journey here on Earth however, we are part of the Kingdom of God! All the difficulties don’t have to destroy us because, that is not the purpose of our lives. Our purpose is to bring Jesus to the world & enter heaven!
What does “We are not of this world” actually mean?
We have all heard the phrase that Christians are IN the world but not APART of this world. It is very true and even encouraging, but not easy to understand. This is joyous news that while we are in the world with all its horrors and tragedy, we are actually apart of the kingdom of God! Here is a great example of what the Bible has to say about this topic:
“For he has rescued us from the kingdome of darkness [Earth] and transferred us into the Kingdom of His dear Son [Jesus].”
Colossians 1:13
In this verse, the “kingdom of darkness” is referring to Earth, our daily lives, and “the Kingdom of His dear Son” refers to heaven, brought to us by Jesus, God’s son.
Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross gave us the opportunity to be saved and forgiven, thus giving us access to the kingdom of heaven. From the moment we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior, we are Saved and can enter the kingdom of heaven.
How does this help us now?
We can find peace knowing that while we have to go through the struggles of our lives, there is a fantastic goal at the end of our journey. Think of it to getting an IV in your arm for surgery. Yes getting the IV is painful but we know that the surgery will help us sleep during surgery and feel better overall.
During our lives on Earth, we go through sorrow and pain BUT we know that eternal paradise awaits us in heaven. The Bible speaks of heaven often and even describes it to us (see below).
“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
Revolutions 21:4
Not only do we have heaven to look forward to, but all the sorrow and day-to-day stresses of life aren’t the reason we are here. Our primary job on this earth is to share the love of Jesus with the world! Caring for people, helping those in need, and shining our light of peace and forgiveness is the most important thing we can do!
Simple ways to share Jesus’ love with the world (no training required)
It can be scary, knowing we have this important to-do list given to us by God himself, but it isn’t as scary as it seems. You don’t even need to leave your home to share the love of Christ.
- Showing patience to your family members
- Being kind to telemarketer that calls you
- Rethinking how you speak to others on social media
- Responding kindly to a frustrating email
Everything we do every single day can show the world the love of Christ in us. We can show the patience, love, kindness, lack of judgement, and other wonderful qualities that Jesus showed during his time on earth.
